I have registered, but can no longer attend the conference/Open Day. Can I send someone else in my place?

Yes, Requests for substitution must be made to the HiWATE Project Secretariat.
Please send the substitute's information in writing to The HiWATE Project Secretariat via e-mail at info@hiwate.eu
If the substitution takes place on-site they must bring a letter on company letterhead verifying the substitution.

What is the cancellation policy?

Where do I pick up my badge?

HiWATE Members can pick up their badge on Day 1 at 170 Queens Gate Imperial College London in the Foyer.
For the Open Day you can pick up your badge at the registration desk located in the foyer of the Flett theatre, Natural History Museum.

Do I need to be registered for the conference before I can book my hotel at the HiWATE rate?

A. No, but it is recommended to book your accommodation first before registering to ensure you will have somewhere to stay. Please visit discounted accommodation. for more information.

Is there an age limit at The HiWATE Open Day?

Yes, all registrants (including spouses or guests) must be 18 years of age or older to attend The HiWATE Open Day.

What is the weather like in London in February?

It will be winter so wrap up warm and be prepared for wet weather. In winter, the average temperature according to the MET Office is 3.7˚C (39˚F).

What kind of currency do I use?

British Pounds Sterling (gbp) is the official currency of England

If I need a visa, who do I contact to receive my Letter of Invitation?

We are unable to issue letters of invitation for Open Day registrants.

What is the nearest Tube station to the Conference & Open Day?

The nearest Tube Station is South Kensington served by the Piccadilly, Circle & District Lines. Gloucester Road & High Street Kensington tube stations are also just a short walk away.

What are the travel routes to the Conference & Open Day?

By Air:
London is served by 5 airports: Heathrow; Gatwick, Stansted, London City; and Luton.

  • From Heathrow airport: Take the Underground (Piccadilly Line) to South Kensington station (50 minutes travelling time).
  • From Gatwick airport: Take a Thames link rail or Southern Railway train to Victoria station, (journey time 40 minutes) and then by Underground, (Circle or District Line; westbound) to South Kensington.
  • From Stansted airport: Take the Stansted Express
  • From London City airport: Located in East London and Zone 3 of the London Underground tube map takes approximately 50 mins to travel into South Kensington using public transport.
  • From Luton Airport: Take a First Capital Connect rail (journey time 50 minutes)

These airports are some distance from central London and a taxi is not recommended for the whole journey. However, if you have to do so, establish the cost before you get in.

Travel by train:
South Kensington tube station is served by Piccadilly, Circle and District lines and easily connectable from major rail stations: Victoria, Paddington and Kings Cross & St. Pancreas International Rail Station the central London terminus for Eurostar.  When Travelling on the underground it is advisable to use an Oyster Card which is available for visitors to London for more information please visit Transport for London.

By sea:
Take a British Rail train from the port of entry to London (Harwich to London journey time 1hr 30 mins; Dover to London journey time 2hrs) and then travel by Underground to South Kensington station.

On foot:
From South Kensington station, the campus is only a five minute walk. Either follow the subway signposted to the museums or walk north up Exhibition Road. The College is next to the Science Museum.

By bus:
Natural History Museum & South Kensington Campus is easily accessible by bus. A number of routes pass within easy walking distance of the campus. Please see the selection below for more information:

By car:
Car parking at the South Kensington campus is severely restricted and you are advised NOT to bring a car unless permission has been given. After 18:00, at weekends and during vacations the car park is open to the paying public. Parking in the streets surrounding the College is at pay and display or parking meters for limited periods only.
South Kensington area is within the London congestion charging zone.
