Cancer epidemiological studies
Some epidemiological studies have shown an association between long-term exposure to DBPs and increased risk of cancer. Evidence associating DBP exposure and cancer has been inconsistent and inconclusive.
Bladder is one of the cancer sites most consistently associated with exposure to DBPs. Since three bladder cancer studies have already been conducted in Europe we decided that it was not worth starting another study at this stage without firstly evaluating the current evidence and health impact in Europe (WP6).
The relation between levels of disinfectants and DBPs and colorectal cancer risk in European countries will also be evaluated (WP7).
