Institut Català d’Oncologia (ICO) is a public institute that deals exclusively with cancer. ICO takes comprehensive approach to cancer and covers prevention, care, training and research (epidemiological, clinical and translational).  ICO is a public company that was set up in 1995 by the Department of Health of the Catalan Autonomous Government and began operations a year later at the facilities at Hospital Duran i Reynals in Hospitalet de Llobregat.

The research team is led by Dr. V Moreno, an epidemiologist and biostatistician with a strong interest in the molecular and genetic epidemiology of colorectal cancer. He designed and conducted (1995-98) a case-control study on colorectal cancer that has been the foundations for research at the hospital in basic, clinic and epidemiologic areas. The team includes clinical specialists (G Capella - laboratory, M Navarro - oncologist, J de Oca - surgeon), biologists (MA Peinado) and biostatistics (E Guinó). ICO will make major contribution to WP7 and will part in the epidemiological study of colon cancer, specifically recruiting and interviewing subjects.
