CREAL is a joint initiative of the Municipal Institute of Medical Research, the Pompeu Fabra University and the Government of Catalonia. The research staff has great experience in research and in assessing computer systems, evaluating environmental risks and managing crises, as well as training in environmental epidemiological methods and knowledge management. The first line of research is dedicated to the prevention of respiratory diseases. CREAL’s second line of action is research into cancer. They are currently participating in a cohort study of pregnant women and newborns (INMA study). CREAL will conduct the exposure assessment and epidemiological analyses of the INMA and other cohorts in WP4. Prof Mark Nieuwenhuijsen currently holds positions of Research Professor in Environmental Epidemiology at CREAL and of visiting professor in Environmental Epidemiology at Imperial – dividing his work between the 2 institutions.
